Biyuti is a swardspeak term that means the physicality of ‘beauty’ and state of mind; essence, spirit, energy, or Biyuti inside and out. In 2004, Biyuti started as a safe space for those who identify as queer and questioning Pilipin@. Today, it has become into a space that offers support, community, and awareness about the issues surrounding queer and questioning Pilipin@s. As part of Pilipino Academic Student Services (PASS), Biyuti seeks to recruit queer and questioning Pilpin@s into higher education and to help the students retain here at Cal.
Cal For Equality
Cal For Equality is an advocacy group that seeks to improve the quality of life of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people by strengthening coalition efforts and building a broad and inclusive movement for justice and equality.
The mission of Cal For Equality is to strengthen civic engagement efforts and create a politically powerful movement for justice and equality by providing current policy information, internships, advocacy opportunities, and educational resources to LGBTQ students and allies.
Khush is a safe space for LGBTQIA South Asian folks at UC Berkeley. It is a space to build community, hang out, and provide support.
“Khush” means ecstatic pleasure in Urdu. For LGBTQIA South Asian in Britain, North America, and India the term captures the blissful intricacies of being queer and of color. Inspiring testimonies bridge geographical differences to locate shared experiences of isolation and exoticization but also the unremitting joys and solidarity of being “khush.”
